If you've been looking for a specialist acupuncturist near Darlington, this is it.
Darlington has a strong range of health services. What it doesn't have is a dedicated Traditional Chinese Medicine clinic with degree-level qualifications, BAcC registration, and the clinical depth that genuine TCM brings.
Our clinic is in Middlesbrough — 25 minutes from Darlington via the A66. It's one road, dual carriageway most of the way. Clients travel from Darlington, Hurworth, Newton Aycliffe, Middleton St George, and Croft-on-Tees regularly, most for the same reason: they need something more specific than what's available locally.
Chronic pain that physio hasn't shifted. Hormones that feel completely out of sync. Anxiety or sleep problems that have become the background noise of daily life. Fertility concerns that are starting to feel urgent.
When symptoms have been present long enough to shape your week, a localised or symptomatic treatment approach often isn't enough. TCM works with the pattern behind the symptoms — which is why it reaches conditions that other approaches don't.
Recognised by the NHS and recommended by NICE.
NICE guidelines recommend acupuncture for chronic primary pain, tension-type headaches, and migraines. Traditional Chinese Acupuncture goes considerably further — addressing hormonal, emotional, and systemic conditions that clinical guidelines haven't yet caught up with. Many clients from Stockton and the surrounding area come to us having already explored conventional routes.
What we treat
Clients from Stockton-on-Tees and the surrounding area come to us for a wide range of conditions. Treatment is always tailored specifically to you — your health history, your symptoms, your patterns.
- Chronic pain and musculoskeletal conditions — back pain, sciatica, joint pain, fibromyalgia, and persistent neck or shoulder tension. NICE recommends acupuncture for chronic primary pain.
- Migraines and headaches — NICE recommends acupuncture for both migraines and tension-type headaches. Clients from Darlington and the DL postcode area come to us specifically for this. A sustained course of treatment rather than reactive pain relief.
- Hormonal health and menopause — hot flushes, night sweats, mood changes, irregular cycles, perimenopause, and the hormonal picture that isn't quite explained by a single diagnosis.
- Anxiety, stress, and sleep difficulties — nervous system regulation for people who feel wired, depleted, or both. Addressed through body acupuncture with Deanna and ear acupuncture with Anthony.
- Pregnancy and postpartum — nausea, pelvic discomfort, breech presentation, and postnatal recovery.
- General wellbeing — when something feels off but doesn't fit neatly into a diagnosis.
What happens at your first appointment
Most people who haven't tried acupuncture before don't quite know what to expect. Here's exactly how it goes.
You arrive and settle in
The clinic is calm and unhurried. Free parking is directly outside. There's no waiting room atmosphere — just a quiet space before we start.
A full consultation
Your initial session is 75 minutes. We talk through what's brought you here — your health history, your sleep, your digestion, your cycles, your stress levels. In TCM, all of it is diagnostic. Nothing is irrelevant.
Your first treatment
Fine sterile needles are placed at the specific points chosen for you. Most people feel a mild, brief sensation and then very little. Many drift off. You rest for 20 to 30 minutes while the treatment works.
Honest advice on what's next
At the end of the session we talk through what was observed and what a realistic plan looks like. You decide what works for you. No pressure and no obligation to commit to anything on the day.

★★★★★"I cannot thank you enough for what you've done for my mam. The pain in her face had been tormenting her for so long. My dad said she hasn't had the severe pain for a good few weeks now. This means so much to our family."
Client family member, Google Review ★★★★★"After years of chronic pain and poor sleep I'd honestly given up. Three sessions in I slept through the night for the first time in two years. I tell everyone about this clinic."
Client, Fresha Review ★★★★★"Deanna is so caring and friendly but also an absolute professional. She has excellent knowledge but uses her intuition to guide each session. Five stars — would highly recommend."

Things people often wonder before booking
"Is it worth travelling from Darlington to Middlesbrough?"
25 minutes on the A66. Free parking. Clients from Darlington, Hurworth, and Newton Aycliffe make this journey regularly. The session is worth considerably more than the drive. There is no equivalent specialist BAcC-registered TCM clinic in Darlington itself.
"I've never had acupuncture before."
Most people haven't. The initial consultation is designed with that in mind. Deanna explains what's happening throughout. The needles are very fine, the sensation is usually mild, and the most common response is that people wish they'd started sooner.
"I've already tried physio / pain management / other treatments."
That's one of the most common things we hear. TCM addresses the pattern behind the symptoms, not just the symptoms themselves. That distinction is often what makes the difference for people who've felt stuck with a conventional approach.
"How many sessions will I need?"
It depends on your condition and how long it has been present. Most people notice a meaningful shift within three to six sessions. Deanna will give you a specific, honest recommendation at the end of your first appointment — not a vague commitment to a long course.
