Who This Session Is Designed For

This session is for you if...
  • 🌿You are trying to conceive naturally and want to support both partners' fertility health
  • 🌿You are preparing for IVF or IUI and want both of you in the best possible condition beforehand
  • 🌿A semen analysis has flagged concerns with sperm count, morphology, or motility
  • 🌿You have received a diagnosis of unexplained infertility and want to explore every avenue of support
  • 🌿You want to approach conception as a shared experience, not something one person carries alone
A note on what this is not...

Acupuncture is a complementary therapy. It works alongside your medical care, not instead of it. If you are working with a fertility consultant or clinic, this session fits comfortably around that. We are happy to coordinate with your wider team where helpful.

This session is not appropriate for those in acute medical crisis or requiring urgent clinical intervention. If you are unsure, call us before booking and we will be honest with you about whether this is the right fit.

We welcome couples from across Teesside, including Middlesbrough, Stockton-on-Tees, Darlington, Yarm, Ingleby Barwick, and the surrounding areas.

You Are Not Alone

Trying to Conceive Can Feel Like It All Falls on Her.

The appointments. The tracking. The tests. The supplements. The hope that rises and falls every month. When you are trying to conceive, it can start to feel like one person is carrying the weight of something that belongs to both of you.

And yet the truth, one that does not get spoken about nearly enough, is that in around half of all cases where conception is taking longer than expected, male fertility is a contributing factor. Sperm quality, motility, and count are all deeply influenced by stress, lifestyle, and the nervous system. These are not fixed. They are responsive. And they respond well to support.

Couples Fertility Acupuncture is designed to bring both partners into the picture. Not to add pressure. To share the load and to give both of your bodies the best possible environment for new life.

What This Session Supports

Both of You, Addressed at the Root

🌸

Egg Quality & Hormonal Balance

Targeted acupuncture points support healthy follicle development, regulate the menstrual cycle, and encourage the hormonal conditions in which conception becomes possible.

💙

Sperm Health & Vitality

Acupuncture improves blood flow to the reproductive organs, supports healthy testosterone levels, and helps reduce oxidative stress. All of which matter for sperm quality and motility.

🩸

Blood Flow to Reproductive Organs

For both partners, optimal blood supply to the uterus, ovaries, and testes is fundamental. Acupuncture promotes circulation and reduces the constriction that stress and tension create.

🧠

Stress & Nervous System Regulation

Chronic stress suppresses reproductive hormones in both men and women. Each session works to calm the nervous system, lower cortisol, and create the internal environment where fertility can flourish.

💛

Emotional Wellbeing as a Couple

Fertility challenges can place significant strain on a relationship. Sharing a supportive treatment creates space to reconnect. A shared experience rather than a divided burden.

Personalised to Each of You

You are two individuals with different health pictures. Each partner receives a treatment tailored to their own body, their own concerns, and their own current needs.

The Science, Simply Explained

How Acupuncture Actually Works for Fertility

Acupuncture is not mysterious. There are clear, measurable ways in which it influences the body, and most of them are directly relevant to fertility. Here is what is happening beneath the surface during each session.

Hormonal Regulation

Acupuncture influences the hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian axis, the hormonal control centre that governs your cycle, ovulation, and reproductive hormones. Regulation here creates more predictable, fertile cycles.

Improved Blood Flow

Fine needles placed at specific points prompt the body to increase blood supply to the uterus, ovaries, and testes. For women this supports endometrial lining and egg development. For men it supports healthy sperm production.

Cortisol Reduction

High cortisol, the primary stress hormone, directly suppresses reproductive hormones in both men and women. Acupuncture measurably reduces cortisol and helps the body move out of its stress response.

Sperm Quality Support

Research into acupuncture and sperm health points to improvements in motility, morphology, and concentration. The mechanism appears to involve reduced oxidative stress and improved microcirculation to the testes. A study published in Fertility and Sterility (Pei et al., 2005) found significant improvements in sperm motility and morphology following acupuncture treatment in infertile men. The British Acupuncture Council's evidence fact sheets summarise further supporting research at acupuncture.org.uk.

Acupuncture works cumulatively. The changes that matter most, regulated cycles, improved sperm parameters, and reduced stress hormones, build over a course of treatment rather than appearing after a single session.

"My partner and I have been having regular weekly sessions with Deanna and cannot recommend her enough. She is worlds apart from other acupuncturists I have seen. "I went to see Deanna as I was having trouble falling pregnant and realised my cycle was slightly shorter than it should be. Through her guidance and acupuncture we managed to lengthen my luteal phase and as I write this, I am sat with my newborn on my knee. It took 15 months in total but only 4 months of seeing Deanna to finally get my baby boy."

Common Questions

What Couples Often Ask Us

Does my partner need to have any fertility concerns for this to be worthwhile?

Not at all. Many couples book this session simply because they want to approach conception together, with both bodies in the best possible condition. It is not a session for when something is wrong. It is a session for when you want to give conception every possible advantage, for both of you.

My partner wants to know where the needles will be placed. Will any be near sensitive areas?

This is one of the most common questions we hear from male partners, and it is completely reasonable to ask. The acupuncture points used to support male fertility are located on the lower legs, feet, lower back, abdomen, and hands. No needles are placed near the genitals or anywhere that would feel intrusive or uncomfortable. You remain fully clothed throughout and Deanna will explain exactly where each needle is being placed before any treatment begins. Nothing proceeds without your agreement. Many male partners arrive sceptical and leave genuinely surprised at how straightforward and comfortable the experience is.

Can acupuncture genuinely help with sperm quality?

There is a growing body of research exploring acupuncture's effect on sperm parameters including motility, morphology, and count. The mechanisms being studied include improved blood flow to the testes, reduction of oxidative stress, and nervous system regulation. Sperm health is also responsive to lifestyle, nutrition, and stress levels, all areas we address as part of the session.

We have been trying for a while and it has not happened yet. Is this still appropriate for us?

Yes, and often this is exactly when couples find it most valuable. Fertility acupuncture is not a first step only. It can be a meaningful form of support at any stage of your journey, whether you are just beginning, have been trying for some time, or are awaiting test results. You are welcome to book regardless of where you are in the process.

My partner is nervous about needles in general. What should we expect?

Acupuncture needles are very fine, much thinner than the needles used for injections, and most people experience very little sensation. Some describe a mild heaviness or warmth at the needle site, which is a sign the treatment is working. Deanna is experienced in working with clients who have not had acupuncture before and will take as much time as needed to ensure both of you feel comfortable before any treatment begins.

How many sessions would you recommend?

Acupuncture works cumulatively. A single session is a meaningful starting point, but ongoing support, weekly or fortnightly, allows the treatment to build and have a more sustained effect. After your first session, Deanna will talk through a recommended plan based on both of your health pictures. There is no pressure to commit to anything on the day.

Is this only for couples trying to conceive naturally, or is it suitable alongside IVF?

Both. If you are on a natural conception path, this session supports your monthly cycle and overall fertility health. If you are preparing for IVF, supporting both partners' health in the lead-up to treatment is equally important, as egg quality and sperm quality both affect IVF outcomes. Deanna can discuss the most appropriate approach for your specific situation during the session.

Where is the clinic and is there parking?

The clinic is at The House, 283 Acklam Road, Middlesbrough, TS5 7BP. Free parking is available at Acklam shops, a short walk from the clinic. Deanna works Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.
